Lough Mountain Farm is a family-run organic farm nestled in the Slieve Aughty Mountains of East Galway, Ireland. Operated by Rory O’Reilly and his wife Sarah, the farm specializes in 100% grass-fed Angus and Galloway beef, as well as lambs raised on native flora. Their commitment to sustainable and ethical farming practices ensures that animals graze year-round, resulting in high-quality meat products. The farm offers a range of products, including 10kg mixed beef boxes and whole or half lambs, available for delivery across Ireland.
Beyond farming, Lough Mountain Farm is dedicated to environmental stewardship. The land is part of a Special Protection Area for the Hen Harrier, and Rory actively participates in conservation efforts, such as planting trees along watercourses and implementing mob grazing techniques to promote biodiversity. Their approach not only supports the local ecosystem but also fosters a deeper connection between consumers and the source of their food. By choosing Lough Mountain Farm, customers support a model of agriculture that values quality, sustainability, and transparency.
Each box contains approximately 3–4 kg of steaks (such as rib-eye, sirloin, striploin, chuck, and round steak), 3 kg of mince, 2–3 kg of roasts, and 1 kg of stewing beef.
No, the beef is shipped fresh from the butcher and has not been frozen. All products are packed in temperature-controlled cardboard boxes with a sheep’s wool insulating layer to maintain freshness during transit.
The farm feeds animals exclusively on grass and grass silage and does not house them during winter months. This natural feeding cycle means animals maintain body condition without becoming overly fat, aligning with their commitment to sustainable farming practices.
Currently, specialized cuts aren't available due to the farm's small scale and the need to balance cuts from each carcass to prevent waste and honor the animal's contribution.
