Kylemore Farmhouse Cheese crafts a truly Irish farmhouse cheese, made directly on their family farm at the foothills of the Slieve Aughty Mountains in County Galway. All cheese comes from their grass‑fed pedigree dairy herd, a “closed herd” of Holstein Friesian cows that have grazed on lush Irish pasture for over 60 years.
The cheese itself is inspired by traditional Swiss‑Alps mountain cheeses, with a natural washed rind and a rich, buttery‑nutty flavour developed over at least five months of maturation. It’s produced only during the milking season (April–October), ensuring each wheel reflects the seasonal character of Ireland’s green pastures.
Beyond cheese, Kylemore offers more than flavour, the farm delivers full traceability, sustainable practices (low‑carbon footprint, farm‑to‑fork), and a genuine commitment to rural livelihoods. Visitors can also book farm and cheese tours, complete with tasting sessions and traditional afternoon tea served in their 200‑year‑old farmhouse, making it more than a food producer, it’s a small‑scale food heritage experience.
Kylemore Farmhouse Cheese stands for authentic Irish craftsmanship, seasonal quality, and sustainable dairy farming rooted in tradition, a cheese with story, provenance, and place.

a month agoOne of the highlights of our Ireland trip! Teresa showed us all around the farm and even let us help out with the cheese making process. The tour ended with a delicious cheeseboard, with their own cheese and other local produce. Teresa is a lovely person and an incredibly generous host. Would highly recommend this to anyone.

3 months agoWe're still totally blown away by today's experience. Teresa had told us on the phone beforehand that cheese production was unfortunately paused until spring because the calves had arrived. Nevertheless, she invited us to visit the farm, and the farm shop is open from 11 am until the afternoon anyway. Teresa gave us a very warm welcome and, despite her busy schedule, showed us around. She explained the cheese production process and introduced us to the animals. Our kids were especially thrilled with the babies. Teresa is an impressive woman. And so incredibly warm and friendly. You can tell she loves what she does. Running the farm together with her parents – hats off to her! Now, about the cheese: We naturally sampled some and bought a few right away. Delicious and something truly special. All the other regional products in the little farm shop are also wonderful. We'll definitely have to come back in the summer, because Teresa will be opening a small café around the farm shop then. They'll also be offering production tours. We're sure we'll be hearing more about this cheese soon, as they sell it beyond Ireland. Incredibly beautiful craftsmanship from truly special people. We highly recommend a visit and a stopover. All the best to Teresa and her family, and continued success to this wonderful business.

8 months agoBrilliant day out. Teresa and her staff are warm, welcoming and passionate about producing the five star product that is Kylemore Farmhouse cheese. Loughrea Women's Shed were taken on an extensive tour of the whole production line - cows to cheese. Multiple tastings along the way, interesting to both rural and urban dweller it was fascinating and a little humbling to realise the love and attention to detail that goes into every wheel of cheese produced. Finished off the day with a lunch of home baked goods and charcuterie. All ingredients locally produced and freshly prepared, what a wonderful experience for all. To Julie, Roisin, Ciara and Teresa who sets the gold standard - many many thanks.
